The soul ethno / folk disc is a direct consequence of the compositional choice of starting almost entirely from pre-existing sounds, without resorting to new recordings. Together with Luigi De Angelis, I started a real musical research in the areas of North Africa and the Middle East crossed in some way by the events and by the figure of Tomas Edward Lawrance, better known as Lawrance of Arabia. Within a few months, after travel advice and targeted, I managed to put together a good archive of old recordings (sometimes redigitised but in most cases on vinyl or tape). The material I chose mostly dates back to the 50s and 60s. Recordings are guided by a more anthropological approach that musical and therefore very interesting for the purposes of my research because it still raised from the distant past rites and ceremonies in the villages and tribes. Material very “dirty” and strongly characterized but perfect for what I had in mind. I let myself be guided by their musical structures in that area that overlooks the Mediterranean, simple from a compositional point of view and for this powerful and hypnotic. In particular I was interested in the fast-paced and obstinate repetition of chants and litanies.

Also, I was fascinated by the idea of putting your hands (and ears) on real “historical” thinking that many of those tribes, even more so if the nomads, were destroyed and the world itself in which they lived and transformed irreversibly damaged. Considering that popular music is not by definition a habit to record and orality is his main means of publicizing and self-preserving, I felt it was important that I was working on the recordings were (perhaps) the only evidence of a sound world that is now extinct. I was ahead of sounds that are loaded also led to an exciting human.

The electronic aspect of this work is then born out of my need to break the original structures and replace those rhythmic gait play an even more obsessive and sequential.
E’ was therefore also a work of electronic manipulation, but with the aim of hiding the electronic sound rather than show. I wanted to create a web address that enveloped the whole, a structure / cage in which to look out the echoes of that world away.
During the production of the show TEL I realized that my compositional choices respond well to the needs of the staging of this work he had a few words and many physical actions and that we needed a real soundtrack to drive and scanned the movements of the actors.
From the beginning I focused on a few tracks of long duration in relation to the main themes of the story of Lawrence. The four tracks on the vinyl were composed as having their own unique guideline title: Revolt, Doubt, Utopia and Waiting. Words that harked back to “thematic areas” accurate and capable of arousing feelings well connotations.
This was the path that has given rise to TEL, an intense research in the past with a modern approach in terms of composition and electronic.
